Avani Chaturvedi

Avani Chaturvedi has become the first Indian Air Force women flying officer to flight a fighter gets, MiG-21 Bason. MiG 21 Bason is considered to have the highest landing and takeoff speed over the scope. She was earlier being trained with a trainer, but then Flying Officer, now squadron Leader Avani Chaturvedi made history as she flew her plane for 30 minutes from Gujarat’s Jamnagar Airbase. Avani hails from Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. She started her schooling from Deoband in Madhya Pradesh. She was born on 27th of October 1993 in Rewa, MP. She was highly inspired to join the Indian Air Force by his elder brother, who is an Indian Army Officer.

For the first time an Indian Air Force (IAF) female fighter pilot, Squadron Leader Avani Chaturvedi, will participate in aerial war games which are to be held aboard. She will be a part of the Indian contingent for the maiden ‘Veer Guardian 2023’ joint exercise between India and Japan. Avani Chaturvedi was born in Madhya Pradesh and completed her training at Hyderabad Air Force Academy. She did her schooling from Deoland, a small town in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh. Completing her Bachelors in Technology from Banasthali University, Rajasthan in 2014, she passed the Indian Air Force exam. She always wanted to conquer the skies and hence joined the Flying Club in her college. Before joining the IAF, she underwent six months of intensive training at the Air Force Academy in Telangana's Dundigal.

The 29-year-old first flew the MiG-21 Bison in IAF Squadron service after she completed her training on Hawk Advanced Jet Trainers. IAF’s Avani Chaturvedi was a part of the first batch of women to be commissioned as fighter pilots in the country’s air force almost seven years ago. This time as a squadron leader her participation in the air drills marks the first time that a female fighter pilot of the IAF is a part of an international joint exercise abroad. Chaturvedi has emerged as the most recognisable face of women in the IAF after being assigned to the fighter stream.
